About the Task Force

The Multicultural Task Force was formed in 1995 by St Louis Mayor Freeman Bosley, Jr. for the purpose of sponsoring community-wide projects to improve acceptance of the area's growing diversity. The Task Force received support from subsequent Mayors Clarence Harmon and Francis Slay. The Task Force incorporated and established a Board of Directors in 1992 and is a 501(C)3 tax exempt organization. The Task Force has sponsored community forums, diversity fairs, a youth rally, and other events. In addition, the Task Force sponsors a yearly diversity-themed art and photography competition and gives grants to area teachers and schools for programs and projects that promote diversity and acceptance. The objectives of the Task Force are:

  • To encourage citizens of the St. Louis Metropolitan area to become culturally competent, to appreciate and accept our differences, and to acknowledge our common bond as St. Louisans

  • To encourage youth in our region to develop a personal awareness and acceptance of cultural diversity in their schools and communities

  • To organize regional cultural exchanges that recognize and capitalize on the region's diversity

  • To facilitate dialogue among diverse groups of people who reside in the St. Louis Metropolitan area
